The Barton Foundation will host its Ninth Annual Sporting Clay Shoot from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Sunday, April 22 at Camp Aldrich, 884 NE 110 Ave. in Claflin. This year’s shoot is sanctioned by Hammeke Electric, Inc. and P & S Security.
Shooters can participate as individuals or as three-person teams in a modified 100-target Lewis Class style tournament. This is not a National Sporting Clays Association sponsored event.

Finally, after over five months of essentially nonexistent precipitation, most of the area received significant moisture with some places receiving well over an inch.Ìý The title of this column is a bit tongue and cheek and it is safe to assume we all know the drought is nowhere near over and in fact conditions are little improved.Ìý In fact for much of the area the drought rating improved only marginally as dry as the State continues to be.Ìý

91¿ì»îÁÖ will offer a grant-funded two-week certificate program at no cost to transitioning Fort Sill Soldiers and family members with Department of Defense ID cards.
The Hazardous Waste Worker (HWW) program gives Soldiers credentials to help them find work after their tenure in the US Army ends. The next course is set from April 16-27 at Truman Education Center B3281 on post.

Barton freshman basketball player Ty’Darius Harris refuses to stay down for long. A three-month coma, induced by a heart problem, derailed much of his high school basketball career in 2016, and nearly claimed his life.
When he woke from the coma, he had lost some long and short term memory, and had to re-learn to walk, speak and even use the bathroom. Doctors told him it would be two years before he played again. He was back on the court that same year, but it wasn’t easy.

91¿ì»îÁÖ’s Community Service Organization (CSO) will host a Career Closet Drive as part of the 11th annual Great Bend Job Fest. The drive will be March 26-April 3.

91¿ì»îÁÖ has partnered with Larned State Hospital (LSH) to further educate its employees and help them advance in their careers by becoming Licensed Mental Health Technicians (LMHTs). Those interested must apply by April 1. Classes will take place both online and at LSH.
LMHTs work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, helping pass medication and at times taking charge of a unit while a nurse runs between units.

91¿ì»îÁÖ will have no classes during its spring break from March 19-23. Barton’s offices will remain open through March 21, but will be closed March 22 and 23.
The college’s regular class schedule and business hours will resume Monday, March 26.

The 91¿ì»îÁÖ men's basketball team received an at-large berth in the upcoming NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
Announced late Monday morning, the 27-6 Cougars received the 16th seed and is paired against 17th seeded Tyler Junior College for the opening game of The Tournament at 10Ìýa.m. Monday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.ÌýThe winner will advance to take on top-seeded and unbeaten Indian Hills Community College in the 2 p.m. game on Tuesday.
