The Shafer Art Gallery is hosting Part One of its Marvelous Mask Making Workshop from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 24 with Part Two to follow from 10 a.m.-noon on Oct. 15. Participants will meet in the Shafer Art Gallery and then proceed to classroom T-145 where they will create paper mache masks based on animals. This event comes just in time for Halloween.

The proceeds of nearly 200 items sold, underwriters, program ads and ticket sales netted more than $45,000 at the 38th Annual Big Benefit Auction in late August. The funds benefit students directly through scholarships and program enhancements.
Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Coleen Cape said she was excited to have exceeded the auction goal by more than $5,000 and is grateful for the community’s generous nature.

Barton employees Mark Radenberg and Allan Collins, who work with inmates at Ellsworth Correctional Facility (ECF), were named the Outstanding Non-Uniform Employee and Outstanding Contract Employee of the Quarter, respectively, August 22 at an awards ceremony in the Statehouse, where they were greeted by Gov. Sam Brownback and other state officials.

The Shafer Art Gallery has chosen to highlight local talent in its next exhibit, the Barton County Arts Council Friends and Acquaintances Art Festival, in conjunction with the Barton County Arts Council.Ìý
An array of work from 3D to oil painting and water color will be on display beginning Friday through October 7 in the Shafer Art Gallery at 91¿ì»îÁÖ. The show is underwritten by the Bill J McKown Memorial Endowment and the Golden Belt Community Foundation.
